Life Update:
It is week 3 of the semester and it is flying by! I have been able to work on redesigning couple databases for the MPA department and it is looking to be a longer project than I originally expected, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing the finished project. I have also started working on reactivating PASS (Public Service Student Society) for the year. Keep a lookout for future information and events!!
While I am excited about the projects I am working on, and future projects, I am still working out the kinks in balancing my new schedule and responsibilities. This balancing act hasn't been the easiest as I am still trying to have some fun in the warm weather but I almost have it down. In the hustle and bustle of work, grad school, moving, and trying to have a social life can be a little stressful but it can be managed. Check out the rest of the post to learn some tips on how to manage your stress.
Stress Management Tips:
1. Take control of your life
To balance grad school, work, and your social life you have to be able to say no sometimes. FOMO can easily get the best of us when someone invites you to a concert or asks you to assist in a research project, but we can't do it all (even though most of us try to). Take control of your life so you don't stretch yourself to thin.
2. Find your support system
Whether this is family, close friends, or your classmates knowing you have someone to vent to or get honest feedback from is key in managing grad school stress.
3. Believe in yourself and your goals
In grad school it can be easy to feel like you are not getting your desired results, either in the classroom or personal goals. Remember smalls achievements lead to long goals. Take a step back to see all that you have accomplished, and realize that you are doing good work.
4. Take care of your health
When taking on on grad school it can be easy to let yourself slip into poor sleep habits, or poor eating habits. While this can be a temporary fix, long term it makes you feel worse and increases your stress.
5. Relax!
Working all the time is no fun and quite stressful. Make time to do something you find relaxing and fun. This is could be meditating, fishing, going for a hike, painting, hanging out with friends, anything!
