Student Interview: Brandi Mulligan

What do you enjoy most about NKU's MPA program? 

I enjoy being able to connect with my instructors and colleagues on a professional and personal level. I love that the program not only helps students professionally but also cares about their personal lives. It’s a true family feel. 

Why did you choose NKU to further your education? 

I chose NKU’s program because I had prior conversations with NKU MPA alumni and it fit with my lifestyle. The fact that I was able to work and be able to attend classes full time. 

What has been your favorite class/professor/project so far? Why? 

So far, my favorite has been the Admin Law class because, I prior to the class I felt it was going to be a very difficult course. However, the class was taught in a way that it helped me truly understand the content and allowed me to use it in real-world solutions. My favorite professor has been Dr. Darrin Wilson, because he gives great advice to students who may be worried about assignments or just the overall program. 

How do topics in the classroom relate to your career/current position? 

Topics in the classroom relate to my current position because I work with a very diverse group of students, and topics during the program have helped me navigate new skills on how to communicate effectively with them. 

Do you have any advice for people considering the MPA program?  

My advice would be for students to network with everyone in the program. Be open to new ideas and conversations. Last, be ready to gain a new set of a great support system.
